AMMAN — Jordan’s iconic Petra Archaeological Park welcomed a steady stream of visitors during the Eid Al Fitr holiday, highlighting a positive trend in the country’s tourism recovery.
According to figures released by the Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA), the UNESCO-listed site received a total of 2,295 visitors over the three-day holiday period, representing a diverse mix of local, regional, and international travelers.
Visitor activity began at a moderate pace on Friday, with 595 arrivals, including foreign tourists, Jordanians, Arab visitors, and residents. Numbers climbed significantly on Saturday to 861 visitors, boosted by domestic tourism and participants in the Urdunna Jannah programme, a national initiative promoting local travel experiences.
By Sunday, Petra saw a notable surge in international arrivals, welcoming 839 visitors—more than half of whom were foreign tourists. This increase reflects growing global interest in Jordan’s heritage destinations and renewed traveler confidence.
The holiday figures mirror a broader upward trajectory for Petra. In 2025, the site recorded 582,550 visitors, a substantial increase from 457,215 in 2024. Notably, international tourism saw strong growth, with foreign visitors rising by 45 per cent to reach 373,752—making up the largest share of total arrivals.
Domestic tourism also played a key role, with Jordanians accounting for over 161,000 visits. Meanwhile, more than 73,000 travelers explored Petra through organized tours under the “Urdunna Jannah” programme, developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities.
In terms of international markets, visitors from the United States led the way, followed by travelers from Russia, the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Spain, and Germany, alongside growing interest from Asia and other global regions.
As one of the world’s most celebrated archaeological destinations, Petra continues to reinforce its position as a must-visit site, with holiday travel trends pointing toward a promising year ahead for Jordan’s tourism sector.
